ABOUT COMPETITION

"IMPETUS" magazine is a comprehensive compilation of articles, interviews, and graphics, all centered around the themes of technology and engineering. Initially introduced in 2018 as an online edition, "IMPETUS" magazine made its debut, and in 2022, its second edition hit the shelves as a physical edition. Now, in 2023, the legacy continues for the third time bringing with it even more innovation and fresh, novel content. There are three distinct competitions to participate in: a digital art competition, an article writing competition, and a comic competition. Impetus offer tech enthusiasts with hidden talents an excellent platform to showcase their skills on a global scale. Valuable cash prizes await the competition winners and the winners will be highlighted in the artistic IMPETUS annual publication magazine.

MAJOR

INSTRUCTIONS

  • This competition is exclusively open for all the undergraduates.
  • All contestants must submit their work to the link on or before the deadline.
  • Contestants are allowed to participate in any of the following competitions, but they can only submit one entry for each competition.
  • All work must be individual work.
    • Digital Art Competition

    The digital art competition serves as a platform for young talented graphic designers to demonstrate their skills.

    Technical Article Competition

    The Technical Article Competition showcases expertise in current technology trends and innovations.

    Comic Competition

    The Comic Competition celebrates diverse graphic storytelling talents from artists of all ages and styles.

    Technical Article Competition

    GUIDELINES

    Your articles must be in English language.

    Articles should not exceed 800 words . Articles can be submitted in .docx format or any other text editor file format and should be renamed as IMPETUS2023_TW_YOURNAME.file_extension

    EX: - IMPETUS2023_TW_NirashaRathnayake.docx

    The images and graphics used in articles should be licensed under the creative commons license and cite all sources and references properly. Please note that if any entry is found to contain an offense or an insult aimed at any specific party, it will immediately be disqualified from the competition.

    Three winners will be chosen in each category and the competition's top entries will be published in the magazine.

    Articles will be evaluated by an expert judging panel consisting of academic and industry experts. The evaluation will be based on the following criteria:

    • Creativity
    • Use of facts
    • Feasibility of the approach

    GUIDELINES FOR TECHNICAL ARTICLE COMPETITION

    Contestants should select one from the categories listed below

    War and technology

    Contestants are encouraged to explore the dual roles of technology in both offense and defense during conflicts and propose innovative technological approaches to minimize the destruction caused by war.


    • Tech Bubbles

    Crypto Currencies, AI, NFT, Blockchain, WEB3

    Contestants are encouraged to explore both forgotten and current trending technologies, as well as those with future potential, and share their ideas and criticisms.

    Technology for Nature

    Contestants are encouraged to share interesting ideas, persuasive arguments, and well-researched facts regarding the role of technology in preserving and safeguarding wildlife, the atmosphere, the oceans, etc.

    DIGITAL ART COMPETITION

    GUIDELINES

    Every submission must match with one of the themes mentioned below.

    • If a competitor uses a software (eg: Photoshop, Illustrator etc) for the creation of their work, he/she should submit the project file.
    • If a competitor uses an online tool (eg: Canva) to generate the art, submit the link to the creation in a text file.
    • If a competitor uses an Al tool to generate the art, please upload the final output of your creation (png, jpeg, jpg) through the submission form.
    • NOTE: Submission file should be renamed according to the guidlines mentioned below.
    • The submission of Al art is encouraged but they will only be considered for the most popular digital art category
    • Three winners will be selected from this competition. The Most Popular Digital Art in the General Category is determined as the digital artwork that has received the most votes on social media, while the Most Popular Digital Art in the AI-Generated Category is chosen as the digital artwork that has garnered the highest number of votes on social media and was created using an AI Art tool. The Best Digital Art is designated by the panel of judges.
    • While there will be three winners in the competition, it's important to note that all the best submissions will be featured in the magazine.
    • Digital Arts can be submitted in ai format (or any other vector art software file format) and should be renamed as,
      IMPETUS2023_DA_YOURNAME.file_extension

    Comic Competition

    GUIDELINES

    Comics that relate to technical aspects will only be accepted.

    • Contestants are encouraged to explore their creativity without any theme restrictions.
    • The comics should fit at the maximum size of an A5 page and be in landscape orientation (148.5 × 210 mm) .
    • The use of languages is restricted to English, and the maximum number of panels encouraged for a comic will be limited to six.
    • All entries must include the source file. If software like Photoshop or Illustrator was used, submit the project file. For creations made with online tools like Canva, provide the link to the creation in a text file, following the specified renaming guidelines.
    • Comics can be submitted in .ai format or any other vector art software file format and should be renamed as: IMPETUS2023_CM_YOURNAME.file_extension

    • Ex:- IMPETUS2023_CM_NirashaRathnayake.ai

    • Any comic identified as an insult or intended to create a negative impact on any party will be disqualified.
    • The Most Popular Comic will be selected by the entry with the highest number of votes on social media, and the Best Comic will be selected by an expert panel of judges for its exceptional creative qualities.
    • In recognition of outstanding creativity and quality, the top entries, beyond the winners, will be published in the magazine.
